Lebanese community organises Iftar![]() Monday, September 14, 2009 The Lebanese community in The Gambia, known as Ali Albait Islamic Association (AAIA), on Thursday, hosted an Iftar at the community's central mosque, Pipeline. Speaking to the Daily Observer shortly after Iftar, the Imam of AAIA, Sheikh Rabi Fiarahat, stressed the need for unity among Muslims. According to him, the Iftar was not only meant to gather people and eat, but to create avenues for Islamic brotherhood among Muslims through out the world. He said that this is not the first time that his association is organising an Iftar and helping the needy. Sheikh Rabi also disclosed that his association has recently distributed over 400 bags of rice, sugar and some varities of food items to the needy and sick people in various hospitals in the country. He applauded The Gambian communities for their kindness and pointed out that the Lebanese community do not see themselves as foreigners in The Gambia.
