The Gambia Agency for the Management of Public Works (GAMWORKS) yesterday presented IT equipment including computers, printers and digital cameras to the Ministry of Local Government and Lands for onward transmission to various departments under the Ministry and local councils as well as regional offices within the country, as part of the Agency's Third Public Works Project (TPWP).

The presentation ceremony was held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Local Government and Lands at the Quadrangle in Banjul. Receiving the donated items, Pierre Tamba, minister of Local Government and Lands, expressed overwhelming gratitude to Gamworks for the donation. The items, he said, will immensely contribute to the effective and timely service delivery of the beneficiaries. He further observed that his Ministry and Gamworks have an excellent working relationship that has been in existence for many years.

He used the occasion to thank the Agency for the gesture and assured that the donated items would be effectively managed. Ebrima Cham, the director general of Gamworks said he is confident that the donation of the items will help to strengthen the existing relationship between his Agency and the Ministry of Local Government and Lands. He highlighted the important roles that the Ministry plays in the socio-economic enhancement of the country, saying the items are intended to boost the capacity and operational configuration of the local government authorities to effectively deliver as expected.

He stated the need for the equipment to be controlled with care so that they can last for a longer period. Lamin Sanneh, the governor of Western Region who spoke on behalf of all the governors and mayors, applauded Gamworks for taking such a lead, noting that Information Technology is a paramount component of socio-economic development. Yankuba Colley, mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council delivered the vote of thanks at the occasion.
