LRR vow to continue supporting APRC![]() Tuesday, July 14, 2009 Lamin Waa Juwara, governor of Lower River Region (LRR), and the residents of the region have assured Antouman Saho, the APRC National Mobiliser, who also doubles as the Minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters, that the LRR will as from now on rally behind the APRC party only and will therefore give no room to opposition parties. Governor Juwara and his people made this revelation, during a political meeting held at Kaira Konko, Jarra Soma, presided over by the minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters, as part of his familiarisation tour of institutions and projects under his purview in the rural areas. He was accompanied by a high-powered delegation including bigwigs of the APRC party. Speaking at the Soma meeting, Governor Juwara described The Gambia's political system as one of the most encouraging in Africa, citing his appointment as an example of the peace and unity that prevails in The Gambia. He said the era of 'donkey politics' has gone. He recalled the numerous developments implemented during the 15 years of the July 22nd Revolution of President Jammeh. Governor Juwara used the opportunity to urge the people of the region to unite and support the APRC government for rapid development, as well as to transform The Gambia into a Silicon Valley. "Let us unite and support a party that would bring development, discourage family conflicts and forget about individual grievances, work hard and respect our leaders to achieve our aims," Juwara stressed. Governor Juwara assured Minister Saho that LRR will turn new chapter in politics and dialogue for unity and development. Alhagie Karang Ansumana Sanneh, Alhagie Yaya Jarjusey, chief of Jarra Central and Mba Ka Drammeh, lady councillor of the area, all expressed similar sentiments. Alhagie Samba Ceesay, Alkalo of Kabadah, expressed optimism that the APRC will go unopposed come the next elections. He however recommended a regular meeting of the party militants in order for them to discuss issues and also improve on their weaknesses. Honourable Sulayman Joof, National Assembly Member for Serrekunda West, dismissed rumours that the APRC party structures have not been changed and apologised to those affected by those unfounded rumours. For his part, Minister Antoumana Saho thanked the governor of LRR for the warm welcome accorded him and the delegation despite his short term in office. Minister Saho told the meeting that his tour was purposely meant to visit institutions and projects under his ministry and to meet the APRC party militants and discuss with them issues and problems confronting the party at the constituency and regional levels, in his capacity as the APRC party's national mobiliser. He emphasised on the need to encourage dialogue between party militants and forget about any problems that might have happened among them and encourage love among themselves which, according to him, will foster unity and understanding. Minister Saho thanked the people of LRR for their turnout and for continued show of love for President Jammeh and the APRC party. He also informed the gathering about plans for this year's July 22nd Revolution celebration, which he said will be exceptional. He said that this year's celebration would be punctuated with a series of activities and that accommodation is already in place for those coming from CRR, NBR, LRR and URR. Aja Ndey Jatta, APRC regional mobiliser for Western Region, highlighted the level of preparations for the July 22nd celebrations. From Jarra Soma, Minister Saho and delegation held meetings in Jarreng and Janjangbureh in the Central River Region, before proceeding to Basse, in the Upper River Region, where another big political meeting was held before wrapping up his URR visut with a visit to the meteorological centre of Basse and the OMVG project site in Basse-Dampha Kunda.
