wrestler from Ebo Town won the Kanifing Municipality Council wrestling
competition that wrapped-up
Saturday at the Serekunda East Mini-Stadium. The competition began on Friday and was meant among other things to select able and competent wrestlers to represent the Council at the forthcoming National Wrestling Competition organised by the National Wrestling Association. The competition was in different categories such as the 55-65kg which was won by Yahya Jarjue, 65-75kg won by Baboucarr Gaye, 75-85 won by Pap Colley Faye, 85-95 Yahya Mbye, and Mam Corr the 95 to 120kg category. Speaking to
Observer Sports, Yusupha Sanyang the deputy mayor of KMC who represented the
mayor described the initiative as a good one, adding that wrestling is a
national sport which needs to be revitalised. “People are
on the verge of forgetting the game of wrestling,” he noted while urging the
general public to work towards the betterment of the sport. He further
commended the efforts of Councilor Miller Savage and the organising committee. Other people present at the event were Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy and Mamudu Max Jallow, development officer and executive secretary of the National Sports Council respectively.
