Man convicted for assulting a lady

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, April 23, 2009
Magistrate Kayode of Brikama Magistrates Court on Wednesday 22 April, convicted one Kemo Cessay  for assulting one Mama Singhateh a lady in Mandinaba Village.

Kemo Cessay pleaded guilty for assulting  Mama Singhateh. In his plea for mitigation, the convict appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy on the ground that he is a family man. In his judgement magistrate Kayode said the court has taken in to consideration all what he said in mitigation and would not imposed a maximum sentenced on him. But said the conduct of the man was unacceptable more so against a lady.

The court then sentenced Kemo to a fine of D2000 in default to serve one month imprisonment, and further ordered him to pay a compensation of D2000 to the complainant in default to serve another six months imprisonment
