Man convicted of forgeryFriday, August 03, 2012 One Morr Kebba Cham alias Junkle was on Monday 30th July 2012, convicted and sentenced to eight months imprisonment by Magistrate Foster of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court. The said Morr Kebba Cham according to the statement of offence obtained money by false pretence contrary to Section 288 of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Vol. 111 Laws of The Gambia 1990. The particulars of offence on count one revealed that on about the 12th May 2004 at Sukuta in Kombo North District, West Coast Region, the convict, with the intention to defraud obtained the sum of D50, 000 on the pretext that he had a plot of land for sale, which representation he falsified, thereby committed an offence. Whilst on count two, the statement of
offence indicated that the convict made false documents contrary to Section
320(a) of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Volume 111, Laws of The Gambia 1990. The
particulars of offence revealed that on or about the 12th May 2004 at Sukuta in
the Kombo North District of the West Coast Region, the convict made land
transfer of ownership document and used the names of Demba Ceesay on both
transfers as the seller which was not correct, thereby committed an offence. During the trial, the prosecution called two witnesses to support its case while the convict testified as a lone witness in his defence. The accused pleaded guilty and begged the court for mercy, as he is a first time offender. The prosecutor of the case also applied for compensation for the complainant in the sum of D50, 000.
