Monday, June 07, 2010
The Special Criminal Court presided over by Justice Joseph E. Ikpala last Friday June 4, 2010 convicted and sentenced one Bakary Daffeh to death, after he was found guilty of killing his own sister, Kumba Daffeh.

According to the particulars of the offence, the said Bakary Daffeh was alleged to have caused the death of his sister Kumba Daffeh by stabbing her with an iron bar in the stomach on the June 29th of June at Bundung in the Kanifing Municipality. The prosecution called several witnesses and tendered exhibits including the accused person’s cautionary and voluntary statements, medical reports and the alleged murder weapon.

The defence however called no witness but the accused testified and told the court that he was aggressive and wanted his share in the family compound. Meanwhile, the presiding Judge, Justice Ikpala, described the accused action as barbaric and sheer wickedness, noting that the his conduct cannot be tolerated in the society. The accused was accordingly sentenced to death.
