Man in court for deceit

Tuesday, December 30, 2008
One Ebrima Jallow was on Monday arraigned before the Banjul Magistrates Court, for obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 288 of the Criminal Code.

The case was presided over by Senior Magistrate Lamin George, of the Banjul Magistrates Court. According to the charge sheet, the accused, in the year 2007 and 2008 in Banjul and diverse places, conspired to defraud and obtain the sum of D439,000 plus 720 CFA from one Omar SF Suwa on the pretext that he would help him marry a devil woman so that he could have a child with her.

Ebrima Jallow denied the charge against him. At that juncture, Sub-Inspector Badjie, the police prosecutor handling the case applied for an adjournment to enable him to call witnesses.

The counsel for the accused applied for a bail, to which the prosecution had no objection. The accused was then granted bail in the sum of D200,000 with a Gambian surety. The case was then adjourned to January 2nd.
