Man sentenced for stealing from ex-IGP Badjie’s houseThursday, September 13, 2012 Magistrate Landing M. Sanneh of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, Wednesday 12th September, 2012 convicted and sentenced one Samba Sinera to a mandatory jail term of two months without any option of fine for the offence of theft, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia. The particulars of the offence stated that on the 22nd February 2012 at Bijilo, Kombo North District of the West Coast Region, the convict stole two toilet seats valued at D1, 800, one tile rotting machine valued at D2, 500 and two mattresses valued at D5000, being the properties of the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ensa Badjie. The convict
pleaded not guilty to the charge and during the trial the prosecutor handling
the case, Inspector Touray called two witnesses while the convict on the other
hand testified as a lone witness. The prosecution was however able to prove its
case beyond all reasonable doubts against the convict. In his plea of mitigation, the convict begged the court for mercy, adding that his father passed away and he is the breadwinner of his family.
