Tuesday, December 08, 2009
The remains of the former director of Saint Joseph’s Family Farms in Bwiam has been finally laid to rest last week in a funeral service attended by hundreds of people in Bwiam, Foni Kansala, Western Region.

Marcel Jinage Badjie was born in 1951 in Allakunda in Foni and attended Kanilai Primary School, St Edward’s School in Bwiam and St Augustine’s High School in Banjul. He taught in various Catholic schools in the country before joining Saint Joseph’s Family Farms, where he became the director until his untimely death on November 25, 2009. Many relatives, sympathisers and friends who attended the burial, described Badjie as a man of peace who cared for humanity in general. He was said to be very instrumental in bringing peace between communities in the troubled region of Casamance, Senegal. He had served in many communities in the Western Region.

Yankuba Manneh, a senior staff of the Saint Joseph’s Family Farms said: “Marcel had worked and died in the course of humanity.” He described the late Marcel Badjie as a humanitarian and peace maker not only for the nation but for the entire sub-region. Manneh said badjie’s capabilities were diverse and immeasurable, pointing out that the deseased had died with big ambition for improving the living conditions of the marginalised. Marcel is survived by a wife and four children.
