Maritime Workers Union fundraising program scheduled

africa » gambia
Monday, January 19, 2009
The Maritime Workers Union is organising a fundraising programme with Jaliba Kuyateh and Yusupha Ngum on Wednesday 18th February 2009 at the Teranga Beach Club.

This event is in appreciation of His Excellency, President Jammeh's directive authorising the transfer of dock workers under the Management of the Gambia Ports Authority in 2007, a dispensation which has undoubtedly had a positive impact on the socio-economic well-being of the majority of dock workers in The Gambia.

According to a press release from the Maritme Workers Union, the funds raised from the event will be used to support the health care delivery systems in The Gambia and many other important national ventures such as education and agriculture. According to the press release, the directive of President Jammeh further manifests his commitment to the upliftment of the quality of life of the citizens of our beloved country.

The entire membership of the Gambia Maritime Union, the release added, extend warm appreciation to President Jammeh for his personal contribution towards the improvement of the lot of dock workers and pray that Allah the Almighty continues to guide him as he strives to transform this country into a highly developed and industrialised modern state.

"It is against this backdrop  that we solicit His Excellency, the president's personal support to grace this occasion by accepting with honour to be our esteemed distinguished chief patron in order to [make] the occasion successful. We anticipate your response [to] this noble and laudable venture towards national development," the release concluded.
