Market vendors beam with delight As prices of commodities go down

Tuesday, October 06, 2009
Some vendors at the Tallinding market have expressed appreciation and delight at the current status of their businesses as mass reduction in basic commodities reaches the market.

This they said, will enable them to buy and sell products in a good ambience. The vendors, mainly women, made these remarks recently, during an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer at the Talinding market. Mariama Bah, a Guinean vendor at the market, said they are now finding their business easier than during the Ramadan when prices of basic commodities sky rocketed. According to her, during the month of Ramadan, bag of onion cost D700, which is now reduced to D225. She added that prices of commodities increase when the supply is low.

Bah however used the opportunity to call on her collegues to make reduction in the prices of their commodities so as to make it affordable to their customers. She also commended the government in their effort in controlling the hiking of prices of market commodities. For her part, Haddy Gomez, another vendor, pointed out that although the prices of some goods have been reduced, the demand from consumers is still low. Neneh Galleh Baldeh and Isatou Tamba amongst other vendors also spoke to this reporter and expressed similar sentiments.
