Wednesday, August 08, 2012

The lord mayor of Banjul, Samba Faal Saturday presented 25 sets of jerseys to 25 teams in Banjul that have qualified for this year’s nawettan. Observer Sports also learnt that the mayor had previously paid the registration fees of 64 teams that participated in the qualifiers.

Speaking at the presentation of the jerseys to the teams at the Banjul City Council (BCC) grounds, Mayor Faal said that sports and youth development are among the Council’s top priorities. He assured the youths that plans are underway to put lights at the Banjul Mini-Stadium so that nawettan matches can be played there at night. He also urged them to exercise a high sense of discipline during this year’s nawettan.

Landing Sanneh, the public relations officer of the Banjul Sports Committee described the donation as a benevolent gesture, and thanked Mayor Faal for the timely support. Kebba Njie, also a member of the Banjul Sports Committee said the sporting materials donated will go a long way in addressing the needs of the teams.
