MDI wins inter-tertiary tourney

Africa » Gambia
Friday, August 21, 2009
Management Development Institute (MDI) emerged the champions of the maiden edition of inter-tertiary football championship organised by the National Union of Gambian Students (NUGS).

MDI defeated the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) in a post-match penalties - after a 2-2 draw in regulation - to lift the coveted trophy on Saturday, August 16, at the Independence Stadium.

Eight tertiary schools including Gambia College, University of The Gambia, International Business College, Stratford College, Gambia Hotel School and Banutu College took part in the tournament, which according to the president National Union of Gambian Students, Mr Ansumana Darboe, was meant to foster unity among the students of the various tertiary institutions.

Ismaila Camara, president of MDI students' association, hailed his players for the winning the tournament's first edition. Camara dedicated the hard-fought title to his new director general, Professor Jainaba Kah, and promised that the school will bring her more silverware in both sports and academic.
