MOHRST validate AQAA legal framework

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHRST), Friday validated the draft legal framework for the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (AQAA) at Paradise Suites Hotel in Kololi.
The AQAA is a body tasked with the responsibility of accrediting institutions for both degree and non-degree programmes, while setting and strengthening standards across the tertiary and higher education system.
It also promotes quality education at both tertiary and higher education institutions, render support to new establishments, regulate the operation and governance of existing institutions and provide technical advice to the Ministry.
Speaking at the occasion, Musa I. Touray, the director of higher education at MOHRST, noted that the validation workshop is a follow up to series of workshops held by the drafting committee that scrutinized the documents on the establishment, registration and accreditation of higher and tertiary institutions.
According to him, the document will be used as a guide for the implementation of the activities of Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (AQAA) in order to realize the objectives set in AQAA legal framework. “The purpose of developing the regulations prior to the establishment of AQAA is to give the authority the opportunity to begin timely operations ,” Touray noted.
For his part, Momodou K. Touray, the deputy permanent secretary for programmes at the MOHRST, said the quality in education is multi-dimensional and the diverse compensation of the participants from various disciplines with diverse expertise. “It is clear testimony to the participatory nature of addressing quality and relevance in our education system,” he said.
According to him, the principles of cooperation, collaboration and coordination together in the sector and outside the sector is the issue of quality by critically examining the document.
