More Gambian musicians honouredTuesday, April 28, 2009 As part of efforts to reward outstanding personalities who have made tremendous achievements in their respective field of endeavors, Champion Sound Production last Saturday awarded over 22 Gambian musicians and promoters at the second Gamspirit Music Awards and Gala Dinner held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel. Organized under the leadership of DJ Lamin Cham, the awards night was also meant to push the country's music industry to the next level. This year's event is under the chief patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh. Speaking at the ceremony, Lamin Cham, the initiator of the event, applauded President Jammeh for his outstanding support to the country's music industry. According to him, this kind of event will motivate musicians. He thanked all the sponsors for making the night a success. The award for this year categories were Life Time Achievement Award, Best Male and Female artist of the Year, Best Selling Album of the Year (both Male and Female), Most Played Radio Artist of the Year (Male and Female), Best Performing Band of the Year, Best International Gambian Artist, as well as the Upcoming Artist of the Year. This year's awardees included: Oussou Njie Snr, Musa Affia Ngum, George Gomez, Amie Cherry, Flexxman, Goungyman, Ras 2 Ras, Matarr Sosseh, Gibby Bah,Wagan Fye, Tijan Camara, Alhaji Momodou Joof of GRTS, Sambou Susso, Pa Omar Jack, Jolofman, Twin Sisters, Nenneh Suso, Sonofman, Five Star Band and Magnificent Joe. The ceremony, which was characterised by live performances from Gambian stars like Jali Nyaling, Abdel Kabir Ngum, Singateh a.k.a Freaky Joe, Five Star Band, Sonofman, Jali Lamin Saho among others, was graced by Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, Sheriff Gomez, and Momodou Joof - the director of the National Council for Arts and Culture.
