The criminal trial of one Karim Camara, yesterday March 1st 2010, resumed before justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.

The accused is alleged to have had unlawful carnal knowledge of a 7-year-old girl on the 25th of May 2009 at Latrikunda German, in Serekunda, KSMD.  Ebrima Jah, state counsel, called in the mother of the alleged rape victim (name withheld), who told the court that on May 25, 2009, her 7-year-old daughter was sent to bring food to her at her business place in Latrikunda German.

She, the mother, said when she returned home, she found the daughter in bed but that the following day she saw a pair of Jean trousers won by the daughter sustained with blood hanging on a mango tree in the compound. "I confronted her, she burst out crying and explained that the accused accosted her and pushed her into a tailoring shop, placed clothes on her mouth and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her. The accused was arrested and taken to the police station where she made a statement", the mother explained to the court.
