Letter: Mr President, you made us proud to be Gambians

Editor,

I want to thank His Excellency, the president of the Republic of The Gambia, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, for his tough stance against corruption and his recent pronouncements to change his cabinet. I will say that Mr President, you have our total support to rid our nation of graft.

We now know that nobody is indispensable and those who think that by just singing loud praises of Jammeh they can get away with anything are in for a rude awakening, because Yahya Jammeh is one of the shrewdest leaders that Africa can produce now. We are proud of you, Your Excellency.

Beware of people of the old guards who destroyed the Jawara government and had since then disguised themselves as your most trusted allies when the only thing they are interested in is to amass massive wealth and create deep divisions among Gambians. There are loyal and trusted Gambians that supported Yahya Jammeh with all their hearts but unfortunately preferred to stay low and pray for progress. Mr President, just a simple word of caution.

All those who faced the sack will quickly change clothes and try to make all sorts of positive representative only to get their jobs back and mount a vigorous vendetta against those they see as their enemies. I wish you all the best to make a discerning decision. We all love you, Mr President.
