Murder suspect opens defence

One Kadijatou Jallow last Monday appeared before Justice Moses Richards of the special criminal court in Banjul on Criminal charge of committing the offence of murder.

The accused is alleged to have unlawfully caused the death of one Ramatoulie Barry by stabbing her with a metal object in the stomach knowing that death would be possible consequence of such an act on February 3, 2009 at Serrekunda London Corner in the Kanifing Municipality.

The prosecution led by principal state counsel, SM Barkum called several witness and closed its case. The accused last Monday entered her defence and informed the court that she hails from Basse Mansajang in the UPP and had known the victim prior to the incident on February 3, 2009. She narrated that the victim met her in her lovers residence in Serrekunda London Corner.

She said they had fracas for about an hour and alleged that the victim had attempted to attack her five times before the unfortunate incident happened. During cross examination the accused disclosed that she picked the alleged metal object and wanted to get out of her lovers room and threw it. The accused however denied using the alleged metal object to stabbed the deceased, Ramatoulie Barry. The matter was adjourned to August 10, 2009.
