Muslim Aid assists Banjul flood victims

Africa » Gambia
Monday, January 11, 2010
Muslim Aid, The Gambia, on Wednesday 5 January, 2010 donated food and other valuable items to the Banjul flood victims at a ceremony held at the Banjul City Council (BCC) chambers.

Speaking at the presentation, Wilson Shyngle, deputy mayor of the BCC, described the distribution of food and other items to those who were affected by floods in Banjul during the last rainy season, as timely. He disclosed that the items received are 20 Aqua boxes, 10 bags of rice (25kgs each), 5 cartoons of luncheon meat and 125 cartons of soap.

He said the items were donated by the Muslim Aid, The Gambia to the disaster victims through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). Syngle explained that since a lot of people were affected by the floods in the city, they have to carry out an assessment to identify at least two or three victims from each ward. He also stated that the items would be distributed among the various wards in Banjul as expected. He thanked Muslim Aid The Gambia through the National Disaster Management Agency for assisting the flood victims. Councillor Assan Cham delivered the vote of thanks.
