NAPSA members to visit Bissau

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, February 04, 2010
Some members of the National Patriotic Student’s Association (NAPSA) are set to depart The Gambia on Sunday for Guinea Bissau on a five-day exchange visit with the Bissau Student’s Union body.

The delegation includes the deputy national coordinator Seedy S.K. Njie, chairperson of NAPSA Momodou Salieu Sowe, secretary general Aminata L.B. Ceesay and other members of the Association.

In an interview with the this reporter, the chairperson of  NAPSA, Momodou Salieu Sowe, said the trip is meant to meet the Bissau Student Union body to discuss about nationalism and patriotism and also to create bilateral ties between the two associations. This, he said, will go a long way in promoting patriotism and nationalism among the younger generation in Guinea Bissau as they are the future leaders of that country. He explained that the exchange visit will bring about integrity among African students considering the fact that they would all be sensitive on the importance of nationalism and patriotism in nation building, which according to him, is what the Gambian leader has been advocating for.

Sowe further stated that Guinea Bissau is their starting point but they hope to extend the mission of NAPSA to other African countries. He hinted that during the trip, the delegation will meet the education minister of Guinea Bissau, the Gambian ambassador to Bissau, prominent senior schools and the prime minister of Bissau among others,  so as to discuss with them about the possible ways of improving the welfare of students. He said that at the end of the trip, the two student bodies will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
