NAYCONF organizing committee receives more donations

Monday, December 08, 2008
More donations have been coming in for the National Organising Committee of the forth coming National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF), scheduled for Farafenni, later this month.

Last Friday, the authorities at Bank PHB donated 20 bags of rice and 10 gallons of cooking oil to the committee, at a presentation ceremony held at the Independent Stadium in Bakau. Speaking at the occasion, Pa Malick Ceesay, executive secretary of the National Youth Council, described Nayconf as a biannual event that brings the country's youth together to interact and also to exchange ideas.

He observed that any move that is aimed at helping the youth is also geared towards helping the country "since they are the future leaders of this country." Ceesay called the gesture of the benefactors "wonderful," saying that the donated items will go a long way in feeding the delegates during the course of the one week youth gathering.

A representative of Bank PHB said their bank had not just come to add on to the banks in the country, but to help in the development of the youths of the country. The gift, she said, is in support of the department of state for Youths and Sport for the successful implementation of NAYCONF 2008 in Farafenni.

According to her, investing in youths for sustainable development falls in line with their plans towards youth development. She also wished the organising committee a successful NAYCONF 2008 and assured them of Bank PHB's continued support.

In giving his keynote speech, the SoS for Youths and Sport, Sheriff ML Gomez, thanked Bank PHB for their wonderful support, describing it as a sign of commitment towards youth development. He called it a real manifestation of Bank PHB's support for the future of the country. He used the opportunity to urge other banks to invest in the youths.

Musa Njie, the general manager of the Independent Stadium, said the latest donation did not come to him as a surprise as banks are here to serve the people.  He urges other banks to emulate them.
