NBR grateful to President Jammeh

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
The people of North Bank Region (NBR) through their governor, Alhaji Edwarr Seckan have expressed gratitude to the Gambia leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh for giving them 1019 bags of sugar in this holy month of Ramadan.

In an interview with this reporter, Governor Seckan said the donation of sugar to the people came at a time when the product is in high demand amongst Muslims, and will greatly help families when breaking their fast.  He urged the district authorities to ensure fair distribution of the sugar so that needy people can benefit from the president's gesture.  He also called on Imams in the region to recite the Holy Quran in their various mosques for President Jammeh's good health to enable him continue the good work.

Governor Seckan used the opportunity to call on his people to continue responding to the president’s back-to-land-call, noting that it would contribute immensely in the country's efforts towards the attainment of food self-sufficiency and poverty reduction.  He further thanked Kerewan Area Council and Hon. Suku Singhateh, the National Assembly member for Lower Baddibu and APRC desk officer for NBR for facilitating the transportation of the sugar to the region every year. Chief Fafanding Kinteh of Lower Baddibu and Alhaji Lamin Ceesay, chairman of the Kerewan Area Council both lauded the efforts of the president in providing much needed sugar to Muslims in this holy month.
