Tuesday, June 05, 2012

The National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), in collaboration with Saihou Njie, a Gambian artist and photographer based in USA on Tuesday held a one day workshop for Gambian photographers at the Alliance FrancoGambienne, along Kairaba Avenue.

The theme was “Seeing with the eyes of photographer”. The aim of the workshop was to look at the basic photographic techniques and how a photographer can contribute to national development through his work.

Speaking at the event, Saihou Njie stated that all photographers are historians, noting that they show the people what is happening, by taking a picture of that generation. Saihou also trained the photographers on how to take pictures in conferences, workshops and ceremonies so that when someone is looking at the picture they will know what was happening in the said programme.

He also told them what a photographer should do so as to be a good photographer, saying that a photographer should not be shy when he comes to an occasion In his training Gambian photographers on the various techniques, Njie show them how to take a picture in an angle area, and how to take a portrait or landscape picture.

Tijan Kamara, the chairman of National Centre for Arts and Culture called on the Gambian photographers to form an association which he said, will be named the ‘Union of Gambia Fine Arts’. He told them that they received an invitation from Egypt for a photography exhibition, noting that they request 3 Gambian photographers to be present at the exhibition.

Kamara thanked Saihou Omar Njie for holding the workshop to give more experience to the Gambian photographers. At the end of the workshop an association was formed and named ‘the Union of Gambia Fine Arts’ (UGF).
