The government of the United States of America has agreed to the appointment of Aja Neneh Macdouall-Gay as The Gambia's ambassador to the US, according to a press release from the Office of the President, State House, Banjul.

The release, dated March 11, 2009, states: "The Office of the President is pleased to announce that the government of the United States of America has granted agreement to the appointment of Mrs Neneh Macdoull-Gaye as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of The Gambia, to the United States of America."

It could be recalled that Her Excellency Aja Neneh Macdouall-Gaye was recently appointed as the country's ambassador to the US with concurrent accreditation to Brazil and Mexico as ambassador and to Canada as High Commissioner. Until this new development, she has been serving as the managing director of the Observer Company, publisher of the Daily Observer newspaper.

As she prepares to take up her new assignment, the challenge of championing The Gambia's interest in what is arguably the world's most important country, very few people will doubt the ability of a person with a remarkable track record in government circles, having served as a journalist at Radio Gambia, co-pioneering the Gambia Radio and Television Services, which she would later serve up to the position of deputy director general until her appointment as secretary of state responsible for Trade, Industry and Employment. She would later be redeployed to the Department of State for Communication, Information and Information Technology, where she presided over a reign that saw a remarkable transformation of the country's communication industry.
