New charitable organisation established in JanjangburehFriday, February 26, 2010 Janjangbureh Uniting Sustainable Tourism And Community Training (JUSTACT) Gambia is a charitable organisation established by a British national, Madam Jane Smith, in collaboration with the community of Janjangbureh. The purpose is to promote tourism, income generation and to create job opportunities for the youth of Janjangbureh and the surrounding areas, who have benefited from the visiting tourists to the provincial town of Janjangbureh. Janjangbureh has the opportunity to attract more tourists due to improved road access, funds from UNESCO to build a museum, among other cultural values. In an interview with the Daily Observer on Tuesday in Janjangbureh, the National Assembly member of Janjangbureh Constituency, Hon. Foday Jibani Manka, said the objectives of the charitable organisation are: to enable community development initiatives, to support accredited and non-accredited training through local organisations thereby developing life skills and income generating opportunities. He informationed that that they would also maximize the use of local expertise in training the youth on skillful ventures and to enable the community of Janjangbureh and the surrounding areas to develop responsible sustainable pro-poor tourism. He further pointed out that the organisation would involve the community in providing services for tourists, good guides, workshops and accommodation etc. Janjangbureh has a rich history owing to past colonial influence. Hourable Manka then noted that the charitable organisation would help to reduce rural-urban migration. The pioneer of the charitable organisation, Jane Smith, revealed that they have a committee in UK who are responsible for raising funds for the organisation. The retired teacher said she started coming to The Gambia in 2005 and that they are now working together to revitalize Gamspad Training Centre in Janjangbureh and increase the training opportunities for young people.
