The outgoing Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) Students Union executive, yesterday handed over their responsibilities to their new executives at a ceremony held at its premises in Kanifing.

Speaking at the event, Morr B Ceesay, the outgoing President of GTTI Student Union, said that the occasion marked another milestone in the democratic dispensation of the institution. According to him, it was the same platform, precisely twelve calendar months ago that he and his colleagues were sworn into their various portfolios to run the affairs of the school.

He extended gratitude to  President Yahya Jammeh for his generosity and coming to their  aid when they needed it most, by providing them with a luxury school bus, which has been of immense assistance to the students especially those living far. He added that the July 22nd beauty pageant that was organised by President Jammeh, produced ten students of GTTI benefiting from scholarship up to Masters degree level.

He recalled the challenges faced over the year  such as the efforts geared towards holding their graduation ceremony in 2008 which prove furtile.  "My hope is that the incoming executive will continue with the progress from where we stopped so that the graduation ceremony will be held in due course" he said.

For his part, Ousainou Bobb, the outgoing secretary general of the GTTI students Union said that after taking over office last year, their first priority was to help in sponsoring the needed and deserving students in which fifteen students were chosen across the departments of GTTI and Annex branch Banjul.

According to him, unionism calls for collective responsibility.  "Who so ever believes in unionism, believes in collective responsibilities and it was through those collective responsibilities that we achieved what we achieved today" he said adding that during their tenure of office, they participate a lot in national activities.

Sheik Omar Sibi, the incoming President of GTTI Student Union, thanked his fellow students during his campaign and promised to work hard for the benefit of the institution. According to him, this year's motto is 'we' believed that   they will do everything together.

He assured of introducing many activities such as quiz competitions and symposiums as well as rehabilitate the classrooms by providing chairs and tables even by using the students union funds.
