New look for Tanji Health Centre

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, April 28, 2009
Meschede Foundation, a charitable organization focussing on the health sector, on Saturday, inaugurated a new admission ward at the Tanji Health Centre.

The foundation, coordinated by Birgit Lempa, also donated a container of medicament to the health centre. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Foday Darboe, nurse in charge of Tanji Health Centre and the Foundation's Gambian representative, said since its inception some years ago, Meschede Foundation has contributed immensely to the health sector in Kombo South. 'We identified Tanji as a place to focus on because there was a need for a health post in the village. When we were in Sanyang, we received a lot of patients from Tanji and this motivated us to support the health post," he explained.

For her part, Birgit Lempa said through the intervention of her foundation, the water problem at the health centre is a thing of the past. The construction of the ward and the container of the medicament, according to Ms Lempa, cost D650,000. Also speaking at the ceremony, Cherno Bojang, the Alkalo of Tanji, thanked the Meschede Foundation for coming to the aid of his people. He acknowledged the gesture of the foundation and assured them of his support at all times. Other speakers at the ceremony included Almameh Jammeh and Ousman Jallow.
