NIA diamond case proceedsFriday, September 18, 2009 The trial of six former NIA officers continued last Thursday before Magistrate Joseph Ikpala of the Kanifing Magistrates Court. In his testimony before the court, the third accused person, Kajally Jawara, told the court that as the officer in charge of the Tourism Development Area in 2003, he had cause, together with two of his colleagues, to search a room occupied by two Germans at the Senegambia Beach Hotel. He said they conducted the search because they believed that the two were in possession of blood diamonds. "We did not find any diamonds but they told us that the diamonds were with one Dr Alamery," Jawara said. At this juncture, Defense Counsel Jorbateh asked the accused person if the allegation that they, the NIA operatives, had stolen money and other valuable items from the accused persons was true. The accused responded in the negative. Author: by Modou Kanteh | Media Actions |
