Niani flood victims assistedTuesday, August 10, 2010 The Disaster Management Committee in Central River Region (CRR) on Sunday distributed some clothes, sugar, rice and detergents to flood victims in Niani District, CRR north. The beneficiary villages are: Kuntaur Wharf Town, Kuntuar Fulla Kunda, Wassu and Pallang Mandinka. The items were donated by the government of The Gambia through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) for on ward distribution. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Bubacarr Fofana, the coordinator of the regional Disaster Management Committee, said that the heavy rainfall on 29 July 2010, affected many people in the region as many valuable items were destroyed. The chief of Niani, Pierre Bah, commended the Regional Disaster Management Committee for the humanitarian assistance they are rendering to the victims in his district. He added that the donated items will help the victims a lot. He called on other philanthropists and charitable organisations to emulate this worthy gesture.
