Nigerian High Commissioner largesse to Mile 2

africa » gambia
Monday, April 06, 2009
Her Excellency Esther John Audu, Nigerian High Commissioner to The Gambia, last Wednesday donated a consignment of 10 bags of rice, 15 mattresses and 2 gallons of cooking oil to the State Central Prison, Mile 2, located along the Banjul-Serrekunda Highway.

High Commissioner Audu was received on arrival at the Mile 2 Prisons by David Colley, director general of The Gambia Prisons Services (GPS) and some members of his staff. Presenting the items to the prison officials, the Hig Commissioner thanked the prison authorities for the care and concern they have demonstrated for the prison inmates especially Nigerian prisoners in The Gambia. She promised to continue supporting The Gambian Prison Services.

Madam John Audu also had the opportunity to meet the Nigerian prisoners at Mile 2  providing them with the opportunity to describe their living condition as prisoners. Some of the prisoners at the remand wing appealed to their High Commissioner to consult with the relevant authorities for speedy delivery of judgement on their cases which they claimed have been dragging for so long.

For his part, Yaya Jarjue, deputy director general of The Gambia Prisons Services, thanked the Nigerian High Commissioner for the gesture. He said the donated materials will help them a lot in taking care of the prison inmates.
