KMC Mayor receives Bakau Sports Committee

africa » gambia
Thursday, January 15, 2009
The executive committee of the Bakau Zonal and Sports Committee, led by its president, Hadda Bangura, on Tuesday, paid a courtesy call to the Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Yankuba Colley, at his office in Kanifing.

The visit came barely a week after Bakau were crowned the champions of the Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Cup, formerly Zonal Cup, at the expense of bitter rivals - Banjul.

Speaking at the gathering, the president of the committe, Hadda Bangura, thanked Mayor Colley for his support of the committee, which culminated in the success of the Bakau team in the eight-zone tournament. He described the Mayor Colley as a true friend who has shown intense commitment towards the development of sports in Bakau and the municipality as a whole.

Kemo Ceesay, an adviser of the committee, said the aim of the sport committee was to defend the zonal title. While expressing his great delight that that dream had been successfully achieved, Ceesay told the KMC boss that the primary focus of committee will be on the Bakau mini-stadium which could not host the last nawettan matches due to its dilapidated state.

Pa Suwareh Faye, the assistant director of the Department of Youth and Sports and an ally of the committee expressed similar sentiments. In his reaction, Mayor Yankuba Colley congratulated Bakau for being the champions of the Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Trophy.

"I was also happy that the Most Discipline Team award went to Bakau. This shows that the team won the competition with a great sense of discipline and respect," said Mayor Colley who hinted that all the mini- stadia within his municipality will be renovated in expectation of the 2010 National Youth Conference Festival.
