A total amount of 100 bags of rice have been recently donated to the people of Wuli East by Norwegian philanthropists, Friends of Sutukoba, and Aktivefredsreiser Peace Foundation,as part of their efforts to boost household food supply in the area.

The presentation ceremony, held at Sutukoba village in the Upper River Region, was also part of the benefactors’ response to the food crisis in the country, which was theresult of the 2011 crop failure, in which farmers lost over 70 percent of their total crop production.

Speaking at the ceremony, the representative of the donors in the area, Saikou Fatty, affirmed that the donation is part of the benefactors’ contribution towards the mitigation efforts of the impact of last year’s crop failure, which affected many communities.

Fatty noted that this is not the first time that they are rendering such kind of assistance to the communities, saying that the donors are ready to participate in the development drive of the country. Such kind of humanitarian assistance, he went on, would help the beneficiaries in enhancing their livelihood.

He informed that the charitable organisation has been supportingcommunities of Wuli in various ways; ranging from empowerment in the area of horticultural production, sponsorship scheme for students, amongst others.

Commending the donors for their intervention, the alkalo of Sututoba village, Kumontung Jabbai, said the donated items would go a long way in complementing efforts towards improving the situation of the food crisis in the country . Barafang Jabbi, a villager, expressed similar sentiments, noting that food aid will mitigate the after-effects of the crop failure.
