NYC executive secretary redeployed to NEDI

Africa » Gambia
Monday, May 04, 2009
The executive secretary of the National Youth Council (NYC), Pa-Malick Ceesay, has been redeployed to the National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) as the national coordinator.

This was confirmed to the Daily Observer  late last week by the permanent secretary at the Department of State for Youth and Sports, Mambanyick Njie. The position of executive secretary at NYC, the permanent secretary said, remains vacant as the Department is working to get someone to occupy the position. According to Pa Malick Ceesay, his redeployment took effect on April 22nd 2009.

The National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) is an initiative initiated by President Jammeh in March 2004. It is spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President in partnership with the Department of State for Youth and Sport.

NEDI aims to make basic commodities accessible to Gambian young men and women. NEDI is out to address problems with focus on every young person in the country, especially those sitting in the villages and who have not had the benefits of formal education.
