Tuesday, June 19, 2012

The Gambia National Olympic Committee will this Saturday June 23rd, 2012 join the rest of the world to celebrate the Olympic Day in the form of a 5km road race for school children and Volleyball and Handball Galas.

This information was revealed by the Development Officer of the GNOC, Momodou Demba who said the Olympic Day Celebration has been a firm pillar for the Celebration of Olympic Day throughout the world and it is the biggest mass sports in the world organised to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic Movement (IOC).

Olympic Day, he added, is a great opportunity for the people around the world to experience the Olympic values and live the Olympic experience outside Games times.

And the Gambia National Olympic Committee as the ambassador of the Olympic Movement in The Gambia will celebrate the day with activities such as 5km road race for school children, Volleyball and Handball Galas.

The organisers added that they expect most of the schools in the Greater Banjul Area to participate in the celebration and a total of about 1000 participants for the different activities are expected at the Serekunda East Mini Stadium starting at 9am.

VIPs, teachers, parents and students of various schools will also attend to give support to their athletes and teams. At the end of the activities, certificates will be given to all the participants. Similar runs will be held at the Olympafrica Centres in Farafenni, Kaur, and Bulock respectively.
