Ousman Sonko back as Interior ministerTuesday, May 08, 2012 Ousman Sonko, formerly Gambia’s ambassador-designate to Venezuela, has been re-appointed as the minister of the Interior with effect from yesterday. A media release from State House revealed that Sonko replaces Lamin Kaba Bajo who is now redeployed to the Foreign Service. Sonko, served as Interior minister from 2007 toFebruary 2012, when the previous Cabinet was dissolved.He waslater appointed as Gambia’s ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Spain and later moved to Venezuela. The release reads: The general public is hereby informed that His Excellency the president of the Republic of The Gambia Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, acing under the provisions of Sections 71(4) (b) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has decided to relieve Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo of his appointment as Minister of the Interior with immediate effect. Mr Lamin Kaba Bajo is being redeployed to the Foreign Services. In the same vein, His Excellency the president acting under the provisions of Section 71(1) and 71(3) respectively, of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has appointed Mr Ousman Sonko as Minister of Interior with effect from 7th May 2012.
