Pap Saine trial goes to High CourtThursday, June 11, 2009 The criminal case involving Pap Saine, the managing editor of The Point newspaper was yesterday, June 11, 2009, mentioned before Justice Joseph Wowo of the High Court in Banjul. The Point boss is charged with one count of false publication and broadcasting contrary to section 181 A (i) of the criminal code Cap 10, V01 3. The particulars disclose that Pap Saine on or about January 30, 2009 at Bakau Newtown in Kanifing Municipality and within the jurisdiction of the High Court, willfully published false news captioned "Arrested Gambian diplomat in Mile II" on the front and third page of the said newspaper and thereby committed an offence. At yesterday's session, it was observed that neither Pap Saine nor his legal counsel was in court. The director of Public Prosecution, Richard Chenge told the court that he cannot ascertain whether Pap Saine had been served with notices to appear in court. Justice Wowo however urged the DPP to ensure that Pap Saine is served before the next adjourned date. Justice Wowo disclosed that Pap Saine is expected to take his plea on the next adjourned date. The matter was adjourned to 1st July 2009. Author: by Sidiq Asemota | Media Actions See Also |
