PAP'S 11TH ORDINARY SESSION ENDSTuesday, June 02, 2009 The 11th Ordinary Session of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) came to an end last Friday 29th May, 2009, following the of as new President of PAP alongside four other new vice presidents. At a press conference held on Friday, Hon. Ndele expressed gratitude over the conduct of free and fair elections, describing it as an example that the rest of the African continent should follow. The new PAP president told journalists that one of the main objectives of the new bureau, which comprised of only one woman, will be the transformation of the Pan African from an advisory body into a legislative one. This, he however acknowledged, is an enormous task, involving building of relationships between the PAP and other organs of the African Union. "To do this, we have a lot of challenges to overcome first such as the building of the relationships between PAP and other organs of the AU", he said, adding that each vice president would be given a special responsibility in achieving this objective. Hon. Ndele went on to say that if PAP was suffering today, it was because of the difficult relationships it had with the various organs of the African Union. "There are a lot of misunderstandings, but that's a reality and we have from today opened a new page in a bid to build up those relationships," he stated. First Vice President Hon. Amadi Bethel, also speaking at the press conference, told journalists that the process of the elections was an essential ingredient of democracy. He called for more support from institutions, in particular the media, in making sure that issues relating to African integration and the global financial crises are tackled in the best interest of the African continent and its people. He said: "We really have a big task ahead of us but we believe that with the support and co-operation of all and sundry, our dreams for the African continent, which we represent, will surely be achieved."
