Parents urged to support school childrenThursday, October 15, 2009 The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Armitage Senior Secondary School, on Sunday October 11, held a meeting at the school grounds in Janjanbureh, Central River Region (CRR). Addressing the parents, guardians and students, the principal of the school, David Haffner highlighted the poor performance of the students particularly the girls. He urged them to change their attitudes and take their education seriously. He further called on the parents to thank President Jammeh for the girls' Trust Fund. Haffner expressed dissatisfaction over the monitoring scherne of the regional education office and challenged both stakeholders to monitor the school daily. He urged parents to support the students and the school in order to achieve their objectives. He stressed the need for the PTA committee to embark on fund raising activities to enable them renovate some of the facilities in the school particularly the school fence. The Armitage principal appealed to parents to help address the late payment of school fees, adding that there is an arrears of three hundred and fifty thousand dalasis. He finally assured them that if the school has the necessary support it requires, they would go back to their former glory by performing better especially in academics. Momodou Lamin Jobarteh, PTA committee member said the welfare of the school should be the duty of both parents and the teachers. He advised students to respect their teachers and the rules and regulations of the school. He called on them to take their learning seriously in order to improve their performance.
