Passengers escape death in car crash

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Two vehicles, a mini van locally called 'Gelegele' with registration number BJL 6692 E and a truck with registration number BJL 6474 E, yesterday, collided at the busy Ice Man junction.

All on board including the apprentices and drivers of both vehicles were safe. According to Musa Conteh, the driver of the 'Gelegele' loaded with scrap metals, it happened when the traffic waden at the said junction gave him order to cross the road without stopping those coming from the Westfield end. "I just saw the loaded truck which was coming from Westfield end run onto us," he explained.

Despite efforts by authorities to curtail the frequent occurrence of road accidents by making sure that drivers abide by the traffic rules and regulations and always maintain good working standards of their vehicles, road accidents continue to pose threats to road users. Many drivers are still being defiant to the traffic rules and regulations in place. This accident, many eyewitnesses believed, if the loaded truck had a good brake, the accident could have been avoided.
