Personnel of the Gambia Police Force (GPF) last Wednesday, began a mass operation against bicycle owners and cyclists, whose bicycles lack warning bells, lights, reflectors and brakes to enable  them ride on the highway as indicated in the Traffic Act.

The police impounded over 300 bicycles around the Serrekunda Police Station and Mobile Traffic Unit in Kanifing. According to ASP Sulayman Secka, public relations officer of the Gambia Police Force, this operation will be a continuous process in order to help them reduce the rate of accidents in the country.

According to him, defaulters will face the due process of the law. Gibril Jawo, officer commanding, Mobile Traffic Serrekunda Annex, said the first offenders were given a warning and they were also asked to repair their bicycles before being released.
OC Jawo reiterated that defaulters will be taken to court.
