Police sergeant testifies in assault Case

africa » gambia » bundung
Thursday, March 26, 2009
Ousman Drammeh, a sergeant in the Gambia Police Force GPF, on Tuesday, testified as a prosecution witness in the ongoing assault case involving a driver, one Bakary Trawally, before the Bundung Magistrates Court.

Testifying before Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah Camara, Sergeant Drammeh, who is attached to the Mobile Traffic Unit, told the court that on August 5, 2008, in the afternoon, he was posted at the Churchill's Town junction, where he was informed by a driver that one of their officers had a problem with a driver at a nearby junction along the Kombo Sillah Drive.

He explained that upon his arrival at the scene, where a large crowd had gathered, he met the driver and the police officer whom the driver was alleged to attacked, Ramotoulie Jallow. According to Sergeant Drammeh, by the time he arrived, the two had been separated. He informed the court that  he asked the driver for his licence and insurance but the driver replied that his documents were with the police.

He added he then asked the driver to drive the vehicle to the Mobile Traffic Unit where the vehicle was parked. According to him, he then escorted the driver and Ramatoulie to the Tallinding Police Station, where he (Sergeant Drammeh) wrote his statement. The case was then adjourned to April 6. Inspector Mballow stood in for the IGP.
