Police testifies in Banjul murder trial

One police corporal 32 Sonko Gassama, recently told the special criminal court, predised over by Justice Moses Richards that one Dawda Bah, a murder suspect was arrested in the company of five people at Kunkunjang village.

The accused, Dawda Bah, a resident of Banjul was alleged to have killed one Cherno Jallow with a broken bottle on August 2, 2008 at Perseverence steet in Banjul. Corporal Gassama intimated that he was on duty on August 3, 2009 at Wellingara Police Station at about 13:00 hours when the station officer, inspector Darboe assigned him with two other police officers to effect arrest of the suspect at Kunkunjang village.

The witness said when they arrived at Kunkunjang, they found the suspect surrounded by five people. He revealed that the suspect was arrested and put in a vehicle and they left for Wellingara Police Station, where he was detained before the arrival of the OC major crime unit, SP Malamin Ceesay.

During cross examination by defence counsel, S Jaharteh, Police Corporal Gassama revealed that he effected the arrest of the suspect a day after the alleged inccident took place in Banjul.
