Friday, May 04, 2012

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) have emerged as champions of the 22nd edition of the May Day Mass Sports competition held on Tuesday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

49 companies and institutions registered to take part in the annual event that began in 1991 but in the end, 49 took part after Future in our Hands, Gambia Public Procurement Authority, Management Development Institute and Roumieh Travel Agency failed to compete.

Several sporting disciplines were on display ranging from athletics to musical chairs, greasy poll, Tug-Of-War, Pillow fight, amongst others. The law enforcers came out on top with 111 points. The Police were closely followed by Kombo Beach Hotel –who led the preliminary results- with 106 points while the Gambia Immigration Department that won the Musical Chair for Men finished third.

Gambia Armed Forces secured a double in the Tug-Of-War event after they secured wins over Immigration and Gambia National Petroleum Company in the women and men’s finals respectively but could only settle for fourth place on the overall standings with 102 points. The Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital rounded up the top five with 100 points.
