Ports Authority held

Africa » Gambia
Saturday, May 30, 2009
The Gambia Ports Authority FC were held to a goalless draw by Young Africans on Wednesday as the Gambia Football Association second division league reached its week sixteen stage.

Ports Authority entered the clash well aware that a win will put them two points ahead of Interior FC at the top. But the struggling Young African side made life difficult for Bonu Johnson's side in an intriguing match at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium. The stalemate result means Ports are tie at the second place with the Serrekunda East United who enjoyed 1-0 win over their neighbours Serrekunda United on the same day at  the Father Gough Sports Complex.

In a post-match interview with Observer Sports, Coach Bonu Johnson criticized his opponents' tactics, saying they did not play to win."Young Africans played very well but they did not play to win and that made the match difficult for us," he said. The former Gambia under 20 coach also blasted the referee for making some decisions that must have cost his side.

Meanwhile Interior FC can open up a three-point lead at the top of the table if the garner the maximum points against Nema United in a match that was in progress at the time of going to press.
