President Jammeh: A charismatic leader - Hon Tina Faal

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, July 14, 2009
Hon Tina Faal, nominated National Assembly member, has described the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, as a charismatic and visionary leader who has not only transformed The Gambia into a City State, but also inspired Gambians to contribute their quota to the development process of this nation.

Hon Faal made these remarks recently during an interview with this reporter at her residence in Brusubi. According to her, The Gambia needs such a man who will salvage his people from abject poverty, and hunger, among other things affecting the development of this nation. She highlighted the numerous development projects implemented by the Jammeh administration from 1994 to date, saying that the rapid transformation has greatly changed the livelihood of many Gambians.

Commenting on the improvements made in the agricultural sector, Hon Faal said President Jammeh has provided enough tractors, power tillers, fertilizers, seeds, among other farm inputs, for Gambian farmers especially the women, to in support of their farming activities. In his drive for the attainment of food self-sufficiency in the near future, Hon Faal said, President Jammeh has introduced the 'back to the land' initiative, 'Operation Feed Yourself', etc, thereby calling on Gambians, especially the youths, to go back to the land. She observed that President Jammeh has created a lot of opportunities for Gambian youths to work and become self reliant, as well as to contribute their quota to national development.

According to her, the Gambian leader has also led the back to the land initiative by establishing farms all over the country, including his Kanilai Farms, the proceeds of which, she said, are ploughed back to the education and health sectors to support Gambians. Hon Faal also thanked the Gambian leader for empowering the women and youth of this country, as well as giving them the support they need at all times.

She seized the opportunity to congratulate President Jammeh on his recent conferment of the Islamic title of 'Sheikh' by The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council and also wished him a happy July 22nd anniversary.
