President Jammeh unshakeable in 2011 elections - Says APRC National Mobiliser, as he begins nationwide tour

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, January 21, 2010
The newly-appointed national mobiliser of the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction Yankuba Colley has confidently stated that The Gambian leader His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh will be “unshakeable” in the 2011 presidential election.

The APRC chief chief campaign strategist, who doubles as the mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, made the assertion yesterday during an exclusive interview with Daily Observer in his office at the KMC as he prepared for an eight-day nationwide familiarisation tour which starts today.

Colley was optimistic the APRC party will create a record that Gambians have never seen before come the 2011 presidential election. “There is no opposition threat to the ruling party,” he  declared, and continued:“ The opposition is not a threat to my party. In fact it is a waste of time and energy to talk about the opposition in this country. What is their percentage in this country and who is considering them? So why should I talk about them? They are not  my agenda.”
The APRC national mobiliser went on to stress  that Gambians are wise and know what will benefit them.

“President Jammeh’s victory is written everywhere in this country. Everyone knows that he is untouchable,” he said. Commenting on the tour, he told the Daily Observer that it is meant to familiarise himself with the party militants and well-wishers as the ruling party’s new national mobiliser. “The initiative is to familiarise with the people across the country because as you all know, I was appointed by President Jammeh as the new national mobiliser of the ruling APRC party on 7 December 2009,” he stated.

Colley told the Daily Observer that the tour will avail him the opportunity to acquaint himself with the situation on the ground and revealed  his  entourage will hold series of meetings in all the administrative regions of the country. The APRC national mobiliser remarked that the eight-day tour will also provide him and the delegation the platform to strengthen the strong stance, the gains and the achievements of the party, which he said will be consolidated.

He used the opportunity to enjoin APRC party militants to continue to rally behind President Jammeh and his party as they prepare for the 2011 presidential election and further stated that his party will register a historic landslide victory. He also urged others to join the bandwagon of the ruling party, pointing out that the party exists to bring the type of development the people want. “APRC is a party that is for the people; stands for the people and only for the interest of the people,” he concluded. Colley will be accompanied on the tour by a  high-powered delegation including prominent political figures of the ruling party.

Presidential approval
Meanwhile,a press release from Presidency has revealed that His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, the chairman and party leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction and Head of State of the Republic of The Gambia has approved the countrywide tour of the newly-appointed National Mobilizer of the APRC, Mayor Yankuba Colley, to start with effect from Thursday 21st January 2010 to Friday 29th January 2010. The National Mobiliser will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation, party officials and militants. Party militants in all regions are urged to cooperate.
