Pro-hope international visits project sites

A delegation from Pro-hope International The Gambia  led by the board chairman Isatou Dibba on Thursday visited Noiro Jattabab and Kenenba in Kiang to attend  the closing ceremony of a training session for students in the rural areas.

The 18 months training  on reproductive health which was  sponsored by pro-hope International drew  student participants from Keneba, Jattaba and Kwinalla and Melong Njuma.At Kenenba, the delegation visited the Melong Njuna women garden to have discussions with the women in order to  identify their problems and to find out ways of improving their living conditions.
 
The lady president of the Kafo, Aja Jong Folo Ceesay thanked Pro-hope for the support. She mentioned some of  the problems facing  the Kafo as the inavailability of fencing and the lack of water which affect  productivity.  She also requested for a milling machine to ease their work.For her part, Isatou Dibba, board chairman, thanked the women for their hard work and commitment  in working towards empowering themselves economically.

Speaking on the purpose of their visit, the technical adviser, Chidi Nweneka, said Pro-hope International The Gambia has been working with rural communities since 2005 and that the visit is an opportunity to meet the people they are working with and to get a first hand knowledge of the problems their rural partners are  faced  with.
 
He appealed to parents to allow their children to complete their basic education since education will  help them become useful members of  society.At Nioro Jattaba Basic Cycle School the team visited  students who were undergoing an  eighteen-month training course on reproductive health issues, and questions were asked by the chairman of the board to ascertain their level of understanding of  what they have learnt on health issues during the period.Addressing the students at Sankandi Jattaba Basic Cycle, the board chairman, Isatou Dibba, thanked parents for allowing their children to be trained on reproductive health noting that it is vital for both males and females to learn about  reproductive health.

This she said, will help  them  learn how to   avoid the dangers of teenage pregnancy, early marriage and abortion among others. She advised them to disseminate the knowledge gained during the training to their colleagues. In welcoming the delegates, the head master of Nioro Jattaba Basic Cycle School, Demba Jammeh, expressed gratitude to pro-hope and thanked them for initiating such a training session that will help the students to cope with  problems like the dangers of teenage pregnancy, pre-marital sex and HIV/AIDS among others.
 
He added that, 150 students have been trained on reproductive health which it is expected, will go a long way in helping  to reduce teenage pregnancies,  early sex and early marriages. He advised them to take the training seriously.Yaya Sanyang a parent, advised the students to be of good character and behaviour.
