Promote gender balance

Thursday, September 10, 2009
Editor,

Please kindly allow me space in your Observer Mail Column to voice out my concerns about the puzzling mystery- the fifty-fifty concept. Authentically the literal meaning of this concept simply refered to as gender equality which means equality between men and women.

Women are indeed very significant and equal partners in development with men and therefore need a great support in terms of love and self development. To quote me right, I therefore emphasise that men are not superior to women, but the fact remains  that men are above women in terms of responsibilities especially religious and social ones. This is why the young energetic government, (APRC) is a typical example.

This is a  government that do not in anyway leave women at the back. From 1994 to date, significant strides have been made in the area of gender mainstreaming and increasing the involvement of women in the socio-economic development process. Gender equity is fairness that is the principle of justice. It is an obligation and should therefore be put into practice.
