Prosecution closes case in Rongo & Efry Mbye's trialTuesday, February 07, 2012 Police prosecutor, ASP Habib Sanyang on Monday informed the
Banjul Magistrates Court, presided over by Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade
Alagbe, that he was closing his case in the criminal trial involving the state
against Momodou Rongo Jarju and Abdoulie Efry Mbye after calling eight witnesses. It could be recalled that the cross-examination of PW7 was interposed on the last adjourned date with the evidence of PW8 and the case was later adjourned to Monday for the cross-examination of PW7 by Lawyer S. Gaye, the defence counsel for the first accused, Rongo. During cross-examination PW7, Lamin Gassama, told the court
that their investigation was based on the information they got. Responding a question, PW7 said he would be surprised to
know that in the charges the accused persons are alleged to conduct meetings in
Banjul, but that it could be a typographical error. He finally stated that Exhibit C is a request for publication at the Daily Observer newspaper and not a petition and that what was said to have been published was not true. At that juncture, the defence counsel for the first accused applied for an adjournment for them to prepare their defence. The case was adjourned to the 28th February 2012 for the defence to open their case. Author: Fatou Sowe |
